The weekend before Thanksgiving, my boyfriend and sister came to visit me and I met them in Dublin! This happened partially because it was cool and partially because the flights into Dublin were several hundred dollars cheaper than into Milan (the airport closest to me)!
We met at the airport and it was an emotional reunion for both my sister and I as well as for Trevor and I; it had been 15 weeks since I had seen either of them! We left the airport and got on the shuttle to our hotel. We opted for an "airport hotel" since we were only staying two days and the main airport it quite far from the city center. For anyone who doesn't know what an airport hotel is, they are hotels that are very close to the airport and usually provide free shuttles directly to the airport every thirty minutes or so! These can be really convenient if you have an early morning flight or are just unfamiliar with the public transportation in the particular city. In our case, both were true!
After catching up and taking some time to freshen up (the two of them hadn't slept for nearly 24 hours!), we headed out to see some sights before our dinner reservation.
We had made dinner reservations a few weeks before the trip at The Pig's Ear! It was amazing! I had the BBQ Pork Belly (below), Trevor had the Slow Cooked Mcloughlins Butcher’s Texel Lamb Shepherd’s Pie (and he ate every bite!), and Cyn had the Slow Cooked Daube of Irish Beef.
After dinner we grabbed a donut (something that seemed to be on every street corner) and then we headed back to the hotel to get some rest. The next morning we set out to go and see some of the landscape. I love seeing cities, but I love much more to see the landscapes and I think you'll agree! This was was the only time on the trip that we saw the sun!
We really wanted to go to the Cliffs of Moher, but simply didn't have the time so we went to Red Rock Beach... which cost $20 by Uber fro the hotel. Not super cheap, but totally worth it! After the hike we grabbed brunch at a cute little cafe called The House Restaurant and wandered around Howth. It was a bit overpriced, but alright.
We spent some time around the pier before taking a train back to the city center. It was a pity that we just ate, because we saw a really good looking fish and chips place!
Once we got back to the city we visited St. Patrick's Cathedral... it was breathtaking.
... then we went to the Guinness Factory at the request of Trevor! Haha! I had to include these because he's just too cute. :)
That night we got to see the lighting of the Christmas lights of Dublin. It was so beautiful! A truly once in a lifetime experience.
Our time in Dublin was short, but it was really nice! I hope to go back soon and see the Cliffs of Moher! In the mean time, I'm learning to appreciate early morning flights. <3
