After our short trip to Como earlier in the week to get groceries we decided to spend a day there this weekend. It did not disappoint and I've come to the conclusion that I am going to live in Como one day. If it's good enough for George Clooney it's good enough for me! (Yes George has a home on Lake Como)
Welcome to the land of the cutest streets on earth, the best gelato, spectacular views, and cheap cappuccinos. In the above photo, notice the tiny little house at the top of the mountain!
Seriously, it only takes $5 and thirty minutes to get here! We wandered around the cities and eventually found the Cathedral of Como. We were lead by the bells that began at 12pm. I think I liked it more than Milan!
As a tourist you can visit the cathedral for free, but a €1 donation is suggested! After the cathedral we walked to the Lake side and looked for a place to stop for lunch. I have to admit I was pretty unimpressed by the food quality, but we were looking for a really cheap place so I can't complain!
We decided to stop at this really cute little place called Il Molo, the view was definitely better than the food!
I couldn't get over how beautiful it was here. People were our boating in the cutest boats on earth, birds were chirping (and pooping on the tables lol), the mountains in the background, all while George Clooney was somewhere sitting on his balcony overlooking the lake.
We found this little thing called a Funiculare. It was basically a mini train that took you from the bottom of the mountain up to a little village on top! This was only €5.50 round trip! So worth it. It was a nice ride! However, this lady kept hogging the view and would barely let anyone get a photo! Seriously, she had her phone taking a selfie video almost the entire way up. When you're traveling, it's great to be the one who gets to the front and gets the best spot, but seriously, be nice and let others share the view! I literally had to reach my phone one inch from her face to get a single photo.
Any who, it was so beautiful from the top! It was so cool because we could literally see the train station, the cathedral, and the spot we had lunch! We went so far!
This little mountain town knows how to make money. Seriously. We stopped at a restaurant for a coffee (pretty common here), there were plenty of open tables overlooking the view, but you had to order food to sit with the view! This was literally the case for every single shop here! We sat at a cute little table nearby and enjoyed the best cappuccino I've ever had.
THIS IS THE TINY LITTLE HOUSE AT THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN!
We enjoyed all the views this little town had to offer and then headed back down!
Como is a place I can see myself visiting every weekend, I loved it! One day I hope to go back and rent on of the miniature boats (literally they looked like go carts) they had and go onto the lake!
I'd definitely recommend visiting Lake Como if you get a chance. It's pretty inexpensive, filled with cute shops and streets, and so close to Switzerland.
