... and so the adventure begins! Flying from BWI (Baltimore, MD) to Frankfurt and into Zurich!
Packing: Seriously I thought I would never get to here. Lol. I probably hate packing more than anyone, seriously, I packed the morning of my flight. I don't recommend waiting to pack everything, but I can't understand how anyone can pack everything before the morning of. I like to use my last time getting ready for the day as a final check. I have basically the same routine every day so as I use items they get put in my suitcase.
I was able to find my flight for less than $450 and I booked 22 days from flying. A few months ago a friend showed me Google Flights— seriously life changing! Google does all the work for you and compiles prices from hundreds of airlines and travel websites! No more checking website after website hoping to find the best deal, just type in your destination and travel date! The best part is that as you find potential flights, google will allow you to track those flights and automatically email you when the price changes. Also, google will suggest changing dates or departure airports to help you find the best price. I chose Condor, a German airline. I was allowed one checked bag (45lbs), one carry-on (apparently had a weight limit, I did not pass but they were super accommodating and checked my carry-on free of charge!), and one personal item (I chose a back pack since I will be needing one for school anyway).
Traffic wasn't bad at all coming to BWI, but the signs for the airport are SUPER confusing! Maybe it's apparent to other people, but apparently "ARRIVALS" does not mean people you are arriving at the airport lol. We went to the pickup location on our first trip around the loop, but it was easy to turn around and go to "DEPARTURES" so my mom could drop me off. Seriously, Condor had no line. I walked right up, checked my bags and went on to security! There was ~10 minute wait for security, but I made it to my terminal in less than 30 minutes from getting out of the car! I arrived at the airport almost three hours before my flight because I wasn't sure if I would have to remove things from my luggage, so that leaves around two hours to get settled in the airport.
I found the two hours of waiting to be really good for me. For the weeks leading up to the trip all I did was prepare, pack, and say goodbyes; I don't think I really had a spare second to sit down and realize that this is actually happening!
Next stop, Frankfurt!
Review of Condor: Sooo I booked this flight because it was literally the cheapest and it's fine because I'm young and can handle one bad nights sleep, right? I had a window seat in the very back row so I decided to stand while others boarded and then use the restroom one more time before we took off. Here's a pic of me smiling through the confusion as to why I just boarded a plane that was already out of soap and toilet seat covers and the restroom.
Condor is superrrr strict about the carry-on weight, but they seem to be ready and eager to check bags for free! The traveler beside me also was able to check his carry-on for free because of the weight. Here's the view from my seat, all the way in the back!
