Happy New Year, sweet friends! I am SO beyond excited to share a new series with you called “Modern Christianity” where we explore what the modern christian life actually looks like— not the stereotypes people like to believe. In this series we will cover topics like how to pursue ministry over marriage, how christian girls dress, and how to be involved on college campuses without losing your faith. I have been so beyond blessed to share life with a few stand out young women of God who are living R A D I C A L L Y for Jesus. What makes them radical? Read more to find out!
The third guest writer is my sweet friend, Anna Makarova! I met Anna during high school and she just so happens to be an ADPi sister at UVA! What are the odds? Anna runs a blog of her own called Simply Chic by Anna where she discusses fashion, beauty, and hairstyles. I love Anna's blog because her outfits are so original and modest. I've sometimes found it hard to figure out what to wear to events like date parties or even just to class that's modest, but in style. I can always check Anna's blog to quickly find some inspiration!
So here's what Anna has to say about modesty:
"It's easy to be stylish while wearing modest clothes. Any simple outfit can be accessorized in so many different ways. In today’s world, there are various ways to look modest yet modern. There are many start-up clothing stores that offer stylish modest clothes. One of my personal favorites is Rachel Parcell's clothing line. Moreover, in the past few years, there has been a significant turn in fashion towards modest clothing. For example, midi skirts are back in. Part of the "circle of fashion," I guess! Trends always make reappearances. From bell bottoms we went to straight jeans to skinny jeans and now back to bell bottoms. Or certain historical clothing types make a comeback every-so-often and be the new hot thing once again.
One should never feel out of place by dressing modestly. There is this stereotype that Christian women dress in "outdated" or "bland" clothes. And that's not the case at all. I have been a Christian all my life and it has never interfered with my passion for fashion. I never had a hard time balancing my faith and my style. I don't blindly follow trends and wear whatever has been printed on the latest magazine or worn by a big-name celebrity. Instead I try to express myself through fashion.
When I shop for a new outfit or put together different ideas for my blog SimplyChicbyAnna.com, I find an outfit that I would feel comfortable and confident in and that shows my style which is a mixture of classic and feminine. I also look for items that all my readers would enjoy, no matter what kind of height or body type they are. I never thought of dressing modestly as a burden, I think of it as part of my style. Christian women shouldn’t be boxed into this stereotype of what dressing modestly looks like. It should be up to her to create her own modest style. It should be something that she feels beautiful, comfortable, and confident in."
