How's it going? I'm sure the city is starting to heat of up for the summer and any time now interns will be moving in for the summer and not long after you'll be getting plenty of new students in the fall. No matter how hard I try to deny it, one of those new students will be my absolute best friend in the entire world— Rachael Trotman. Please please please, treat this gem with all the best and if you happen to find her car parked in the wrong spot, spare her a parking ticket (or two) for me, would ya?
To all the lucky people that are about to meet Rach...
If you find yourself in her program, make friends with her immediately. She's the smartest cookie you'll ever meet and I can promise you she will pull you right to the top with her. But do me a favor, be sure to drag her away from her books from time to time!
If you find yourself becoming friends with her, get ready. Seriously, you have no clue what you're in for, so here are a few things you can expect:
Be ready to be overwhelmed with love and acceptance.
Be ready to be loved just the way you are, no changing or acting like someone else necessary.
Be ready to drive down the street late at night and scream the lyrics to a ridiculous number of throwbacks (of which she will know every word).
Be ready to laugh until you pee your pants.
Be ready to try kombucha and spaghetti squash, and if you don't love it already, get ready for PB2.
Be ready to embrace Pumpkin Spice SZN with everything inside you (and yes that is a thing).
Be ready to double your sales of coffee.
Be ready to for movie nights and sappy chick flicks.
Be ready to stay up half the night asking some of the deepest questions about faith I've ever heard.
Be ready to have the absolute time of your life doing the most mundane things, like driving to get groceries.
But most importantly, be ready to DANCE! Seriously, this girl loves to dance. Find a dance hall and get her to it. You'll be glad you did, but I can't promise she won't pull you onto the dance floor with her!
Richmond, you really have no idea how amazing the gift you're about to receive is.
To my dearest Rach,
First I just wanna say... PLEASE DON'T GRADUATE! But second, because I know you’re way too much of a smartie pants to graduate late, I want to say I’m SO proud of you and I wouldn’t trade the past four years with you for the WORLD! Over the last four years, we've watched each other grow up. From dance parties in our teeny tiny dorm room, to road trips to see Kari Jobe, to forgetting our asparagus in the oven all night, to pancake breakfasts and OBX, to making the best of red carpet and actually sobbing watching A Walk to Remember, to kombucha brewing and riding down the street with the windows down blasting Fergalicious, to playing I Wanna Dance With Somebody and dancing like maniacs every time we have to say goodbye, to becoming a temporary VB resident, and everything in between, you’ve been my source of moral support and laughter for it all!
I’m literally sobbing (like A Walk to Remember sobbing) as I write this out and realize that I have to do bburg without you next year, but I know graduation isn't goodbye. TBH, if you want, I'm still down for our plan to never get married so we can be roommates forever. <3
All the very best,
